Week 10 Portfolio PostThis week, I went ahead and finished up the meat grinder and assembled the full project. Along with completing the hand crank, I made it so that the handle of the hand crank would be able to resist the rotation of the hand crank by making the handle a separate part and holding the handle together by grooves on the handle and hand crank. This project was fun and being able to make full parts with practical application has been a learning experience but I think that my next project will be more for cosmetics than practicality. However, I may not figure that out next week as it is Thanksgiving Week and there is only one class period.

Week 11 Portfolio Post - Thanksgiving Week
Because of Thanksgiving, this week only consisted of two days, and only one class period for Advanced Drawing. As per Thanksgiving tradition, I'm grateful for being able to live in Virginia and for having the opportunity to feast on Thanksgiving day. I hope to figure out my next project next week and start creating parts. But until then, Happy Thanksgiving!

Week 12 Portfolio Post
This week, I started working towards finding a new project and part to make. As I mentioned in my "Week 10 Portfolio Post," I think that I'll try making a purely cosmetic part. I've found some inspiration in videogames such as Fallout 4 or Rainbow Six Siege. Although many of the models in these games are highly complex characters, many of the guns and equipment models, though violent, seem more easily constructible and more within my interest than the character models. By next week, I will have decided on which part to make and have started on the base.

Week 13 Portfolio Post
This week, I figured out the video game model I would be doing: The Fallout 4 Laser Rifle. Although the laser rifle has plenty of depth, compared to the other designs I thought that it was relatively easier to make. By making the laser rifle, it should help with how much depth and detail I'm able to put into the parts that I make. To start, I worked on and finished the stock of the rifle. Next week, I think I'll continue working from the back of the gun towards the front and finish the handle or even just the base.

Week 14 Portfolio Post - Christmas Break and New Year
Unfortunately, this week I didn't have much time to work on the laser rifle, but I had started on the handle of the gun. Even during the time I had worked on this project, I ran into problems trying to replicate the rounded grip and cut off dome of the part. After Christmas Break, I'll hope to get over this small obstacle and start working more on the main body of the laser rifle. Until then, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Week 16 Portfolio Post
In Week 14, I was struggling finding a way to make the open-dome of what connected the stock to the frame of the rest of the laser rifle, but just recently I learned how to sweep and applied it to making the feature. This week, I finished up making the stock/frame. Additionally, I added some depth to the stock by including some grip bumps on the top and removed the widened edge on some of the stock. I plan on making the rifle separate parts so after this part, I will be making the "barrel" portion of the gun (it really isn't a barrel but just the place where the laser comes from). But, this might not be made next week as I need to make a presentation for the parts I've made this past semester for the mid-term.

Week 17/18 Portfolio Post
This week, I prepared a presentation for the parts I've made of the last semester. Besides just being reviewed on what I've done, the presentation that I prepare must mimic the presentation style of professional engineers. This includes only having bullet point explanations and elaborating on each point rather than reading straight off of the presentation, an introduction to show the significance of my designs, and a conclusion to show how what I've made makes me a better engineer. Additionally to this, when I put my parts on a slide, I realize that without assigning paint or a material, the parts look quite bland. For the laser rifle, I've decided to start assigning materials and paint, and I might do these things to my previous parts to see whether they would look better. I might also make some renders so that I have something to show that looks more realistic.
